A POPULAR Weston hotel has confirmed that it is not closing, despite some rumours on social media.

The Royal Hotel has said that it will "always be here" as a hotel, combating rumours of it being turned into a care home or an asylum.

Posting on social media, a spokesperson from the hotel said: "We understand that there is a rumour circulating that The Royal Hotel is going to be closing and changing into apartments, Government housing, a care home, or an asylum (to name a few).

"Have you heard the one that one day we want to build an extension to CJ’s Bar, as we are running out of space when we are busy…that one is actually true.

"When we painted the exterior of the hotel last year, the rumour was we were selling. Sorry, but we are still here! And happy to be!

"Just to reassure all our customers, old and new, that there is absolutely no truth whatsoever in the latest social media rumours.

"We are really to sorry to upset whoever started them that The Royal Hotel will always be here…as a hotel!

"No hotel closure, no change of use, no theme park in our extensive beer garden on the sea front.

"We find these local rumours entertaining though. The rumours are totally false, but the directors would like to thank whoever they are for giving us free publicity.

"So, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the up and coming events in our CJ’s bar, our new menu launch, join us for a beer on our huge lawn…we are here to serve you, and always will be! We are proud to be here."

More information about the hotel can be found on its website, which reads: "The Royal Hotel is a traditional, family owned seafront hotel in Weston-super-Mare. It is a short walk from many of the town’s main attractions, including the Winter Gardens Pavilion, the beach, the Grand Pier and the towns main shopping street.

"Opened in 1810, the hotel is an elegant Georgian building that retains its original grandeur and charm."
