THE time has come to measure the finished product from Weston Museum's Doctor Who Scarf Project.

The project, which encouraged both experienced and novice knitters to put their skills to the test, launched last year to coincide with the exhibition 'ADVENTURES IN TIME AND SPACE – 60 YEARS OF DOCTOR WHO ART', which ran until April 2024.

The final result is thought to be around 200 metres long.

Tom Baker, the fourth Doctor, was known for having a long striped scarf in the series. The story goes that the costume designer gave a knitter a big bag of wool and asked her to knit a scarf. He thought she would choose what she liked from the bag, but instead she used up the whole lot.

Some sources say that the first scarf was 20 feet long and the museum team’s aim was to beat this length.

At 9am tomorrow (May 18), the museum team will unroll the scarf along the promenade of The Grand Pier to measure its length.

Once finished, the scarf will be chopped down into standard lengths and will be given to the homeless as part of the Warm Bundles Project.
