A POLICE officer from the Bournville and Uphill Neighbourhood Team has been approached by a member of the public to surrender a knife they had in their property.
There was concern that the person's young child may have found it.
A North Somerset Neighbourhood Policing spokesperson said: "Yesterday, Wednesday, May 15, 2024, an officer from the Bournville and Uphill Neighbourhood Team was approached by a member of the public who was concerned about a knife they had in their property.
"The knife was surrendered to the officer primarily due to the concern that the person's young child would find it.
"This week is Op Sceptre, a national campaign to tackle knife crime.
"If you have knives that you wish to surrender, there is a Knife Surrender Bin at Weston Town Hall or you can speak to officers you see on patrol in your local area."
Earlier this month, Knife Angel arrived in Weston's Italian Gardens.
Designed by Alfie Bradley at the British Ironwork Centre (BIC), Knife Angel, a 27-foot-tall statue, has been created from blades confiscated by the UK's 43 police forces.
Its arrival is the result of a successful bid by the North Somerset Violence Reduction Unit (VRU). It is hoped that this will help highlight the issue of violent crime.
