A NEW operator has been chosen to run Weston's Victorian Café.

The Food Hub has been selected to operate the site, and will be responsible for refurbishing the space and ongoing maintenance.

The Food Hub currently operates the Bay Café.

Later this month, the new operator will start on refurbishment work, and plans to open the doors of the café in time for the summer season.

More work will follow after consultation with North Somerset Council’s heritage and design team, and planning department, to make sure that the Grade II listed building’s historic features are protected.

Local councillors have said that they are "thrilled" that a new operator has been found, and feel confident that the venue will be in "excellent hands."

Councillor Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council’s executive member responsible for seafronts, said: “I’m thrilled that we’ve found a new operator for the Victorian Café.

"This is a much-loved venue in an important location within the heart of Weston’s seafront, and I can’t wait to see it back open very soon for business.

“The Food Hub has done a fantastic job in running the Bay Café, and I’m sure that the Victorian Café will be in excellent hands with them behind it. I’m sure that their loyal customers will be delighted and that the café opening will be warmly welcomed by residents and visitors alike.”

Councillor Mike Bell, leader of North Somerset Council and the ward member for Weston-super-Mare Central, said: "It's taken some time to get right, but I am delighted that a new operator has been found aiming to be open for the summer.

"This has always been a popular venue, and it’s great that investment will now go in to give it a bright long-term future."

Councillor Robert Payne, another local ward member, added: “The Victorian Café is very important to both locals and visitors, being in such a prominent position on the seafront.

"It’s great news that an experienced operator with a track record has committed to hit the ground running and get the café ready to open in time for the summer season.”
