Weston-super-Mare Samaritans will transform several iconic local landmarks green over a weekend in April.

The Grand Pier, a popular tourist attraction, Revo Kitchen, a well-known restaurant and the famous Silica will light up in green on April 20-21.

This initiative aims to commemorate Samaritans being selected as the Charity of the Year for the 2024 TCS London Marathon.

While numerous runners will be travelling along the iconic 26.2-mile course on the streets of London on April 21, Samaritans volunteers will be present throughout the UK and Ireland, encouraging participants who are joining in the London Marathon’s MyWay, a remote marathon adaptable to all locations.

The suicide prevention charity hopes their partnership with the London Marathon will aid in addressing the stigma around suicide, by sharing narratives of hope and encouraging the public to participate in suicide prevention.

Weston Mercury: The Grand Pier, Revo Kitchen and Silica will take part between April 20 and 21

Weston-super-Mare Samaritans branch director, Jo Green, said: "At a marathon we witness people join together to encourage their loved ones, aware their support can help them persevere."

"Turning Grand Pier, Revo and The Silica green for marathon day serves as a reminder that Samaritans is here for anyone, struggling to cope 24/7, 365 days a year."

"We’re deeply grateful to all for supporting Weston-super-Mare Samaritans and assisting us in disseminating this message of hope, reminding people across Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset that they are never alone."
