Weston-super-Mare’s marine lake is set to re-open in time for the Easter bank holiday weekend.
The lake is currently estimated to re-open the week starting March 25 after being closed for over 6 weeks for dredging work.
This dredging work, which is being carried out by Teignmouth Maritime Services, is to remove built-up silt in the lake and is part of the £20 million investment that North Somerset County Council secured from the UK government’s Levelling Up Fund.
Walkway areas, steps, and other surrounding areas of the lake have also undergone general repairs during the dredging work as part of the Levelling Up plans to boost local business and footfall.
Councillor Mike Solomon said: “Dredging is an important next step in our exciting plans for Marine Lake within our Levelling Up funded programme. I’m sure local people, like me, will be encouraged to see this continued progress.
“Our Levelling Up funding is able to continue the work done previously thanks to the council’s earlier investment in bringing the lake back into use as an outdoor swimming and watersports destination.”
