THE footpaths around Worlebury Camp Hillfort have been temporarily closed to allow for the removal of diseased ash trees.
A Nature and Climate North Somerset spokesperson said: "Worlebury Camp Hillfort footpaths are temporarily closed from Mondays until Fridays, while we carry out essential tree works.
"We’re working at the hillfort to remove ash trees infected with Ash Dieback – a fungal disease that can be fatal to ash trees. For more information, visit www.n-somerset.gov.uk/ashdieback.
"Our team will be removing diseased trees until around Tuesday, April 9. We’ve marked 105 ash trees in the area for removal with a pink dot, along the southern boundary and the main footpath. We’re starting work at the southern boundary, and will remove as many marked trees as we can.
"As the site is an ancient monument and home to a wide variety of wildlife, we’re working closely with our ecologists and our principal archaeologist to make sure we protect the hillfort while this crucial work takes place.
"While we’re working, we’ll close the footpaths through the hillfort to keep the public safe. During weekends, the paths should be open to the public as normal."
