IT was a Sunday afternoon in February, the kind of perfectly clear day that makes you really welcome the upcoming arrival of spring.
Feeling the warm sun on your skin for the first time in what seems like years, with the wind gently blowing your hair. It’s always what I imagined heaven would be like. Peaceful and tranquil.
It’s then that I fell in love with the sea, utterly and completely. The sound so soothing and better than most music, it was here, stood on the pier that I first fell in love with Weston.
I am not from here. I was born in Taunton and lived half my life in London. When I met my husband I quickly moved in. I loved nothing more than going to M&S and Wilko followed by sitting on the promenade just listening to the birds, the sea and the hustle and bustle of people passing. Some walking dogs, some out for a family walk and some to get their daily exercise.
Watching these people made me happy. I wondered what their story was? I talked to the homeless in the high street and bought them lunch, the people in Weston are so diverse and interesting.
There is so much talent here and untapped potential. Even though those shops are closed now there is still plenty on offer, one of the best being the community art space and the absolute joy and togetherness it brings.
My good friend Bev is an amazing person, she volunteers at the art space and holds classes and such, she has done some amazing art installations lately and I am so incredibly honoured to know her, she’s one of those people you gravitate towards, and when you talk to her, is truly interested in what your saying.
There’s not many people like that around which why it’s so great what she does for Weston.
I’m looking forward to all the events on offer on the seafront and beach lawns come spring/summer time, so many happy memories have been made.
We really really loved the emergency services day and the dairy festival and each year the boys get older the more they seem to enjoy it.
I am taking them to the circus for the first time this year. I’ve never been and I see it on the seafront every year. I’m looking forward to the Eat Weston events, spring walks along the promenade and at marine lake, may even take a dip Christmas Day, my husband and I live going along to see our friend's band play and going to Jam night and the Brit bar, it’s full of so much talent and the atmosphere is incredible.
Let’s not forget the Glow event in February which sells out quite quickly. There are so many things I love about Weston, I love that I get to live here.
What more could you want? It has absolutely everything you need and if not here, it’s definitely not far. We are a stones throw from Bristol and there are some incredibly beautiful walks and country houses to explore.
I mean, I don’t understand the hate towards something so positive. You only see the negative if that’s your own perception. If you refuse to see the beauty in things then surely that’s your issue.
Why can’t we all just be peaceful and happy? I can tell you that once you let all that bad stuff go, life is a lot easier. If you’re reading this, comment something you love about this amazing town. Share the warmth.
Jolene Wilson, Weston Mum.
