A FLOOD alert has been issued for parts of North Somerset.
This includes locations near the Congresbury Yeo, as well as roads in Wrington and Iwood.
At this time, no property flooding is expected.
Motorists are urged not to drive through bodies of water, as this could cause damage to your vehicle and could also leave you stranded.
You are urged to avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.
Heavy and persistent rain is expected to soak North Somerset until midnight tonight.
Tomorrow (Friday, January 5) the forecast is mostly dry with a scattering of light showers.
Luckily, the weekend is expected to be mostly dry.
Public transport such as trains and buses could also be disrupted due to flooding and associated road closures.
A spokesperson from the Gov.UK website said: "River levels are forecast to rise later this afternoon in response to the heavy rainfall forecast today, Thursday 04/01/2024. Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Congresbury Yeo, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around roads at Wrington and Iwood. No property flooding is expected at this time.
"A band of heavy and persistent rain is forecast from midday today and through to around midnight tonight. Rivers will respond and flood warnings may be issued. The forecast for Friday will be mostly dry but with the possibility of isolated, light showers. The weekend is forecast to be generally dry.
"We are monitoring rainfall and river levels closely, and are checking rivers for blockages in the area. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses. Do not attempt to walk, cycle or drive through flood water.
"This message will be updated by 2pm tomorrow, Friday 05/01/24, or as the situation changes.
"Flood alert area: Rivers in North Somerset including Congresbury Yeo, Cheddar Yeo, Axe and tributaries."
