THE deputy mayor of Weston helped open the country's largest undercover winter ice skating rink.

Icescape made a return to the Tropicana last night (Tuesday, November 7). Professional skaters from Team GB kickstarted the event and showcased their skills before residents took to the ice.

A post made on the mayor's Facebook account yesterday reads: "This evening the deputy mayor along with the chair of North Somerset Council Cllr Wendy Griggs and Cllr Mike Solomon officially opened Icescape for the festive season!"

Icescape will be open to the public until January 7, meaning that there is plenty of time to practice your moves.

There are different sessions available to suit all skill sets. These include popular parent and toddler sessions where pushchairs are allowed on the ice, quiet sessions for a more relaxed atmosphere with no music and reduced capacity, skate and donate sessions for charities and Friday night disco sessions for adult skaters only.
