Nailsea Ladies edged past rivals Weston Ladies to come away with a 2-1 victory in the West Women’s Brunel Division One last Saturday.
The match started with a 10-minute period of both sides testing out each other’s defences, then came a 20-minute spell where Nailsea kept the action in their attack.
Nailsea were unable to capitalise on this spell until a Weston breakout and threat on goal spurred them into action and a counter attack when Gee Corner saw his effort deflect over the line by Lois Pinkney.
Weston came into the game in the second half and created more chances, within minutes a loose pass opened up Weston’s chance to level the score through Alice Skinner.
Despite Nailsea forcing several penalty corners the game looked like finishing in a draw as the opportunities frittered out. Then an excellent move with skilful passing through the field saw Nailsea carve their way into the D where a strike by Harriet Adams found its way home to secure the win.
