THE Grand Pier has been commended in the Accessible and Inclusive Tourism category at the Bristol Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards 2023.
The annual awards, which are sponsored by Visit West, celebrates businesses that go above and beyond.
The Grand Pier, one of Weston's most popular attractions, achieved the Commended status after implementing a number of inclusive enhancements, including:
- Five accessible toilets.
- Wheelchair accessible lifts.
- Wide walkways for wheelchair manoeuvrability.
- A Quiet Room, which provides a safe space for those seeking sensory reduction.
- The employment of staff with visual impairments, to create an environment of diversity and acceptance.
- The Essential Companion Guide, which ensures the safety and wellbeing of individuals who require a companion to access the facilities and attractions on site.
- The introduction of policies to accommodate assistance dogs.
Tim Moyle, managing director of The Grand Pier, said: "It’s fantastic to receive Commended Status in the Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Award category.
