Burnham RFC are “very keen” to build on their confidence from their first ever Regional 2 Tribute South West win on their return to action this Saturday said players/backs coach Tim Piper.
The Swags made history at Rackerhayes with their first ever victory at level six rugby after edging past Newton Abbot 25-21 to end a run of four straight defeats and sit in 11th place in the table.
This weekend the firsts welcome rivals North Petherton to the BASC Ground for the local Derby in the Regional 2 Tribute South West while the seconds visit the Nest to take on leaders Hornets thirds in their Counties 3 Tribute Somerset South match.
“With both teams back in action this weekend, after a solid rest and recovery, we now look at building on the first month,” Piper said.
“Although results have been against us with a win away at Newton Abbott for the first team, we are very keen to now build on that confidence and start putting a string of performances together. None more so better than an age-old rivalry and local Derby at home against North Petherton RFC.
“This will again be a great test for the lads as they have been at this level for some time now and are a young, fit, energetic side with a strong coaching setup.”
As for the seconds they are still awaiting their first victory of the term.
Despite their start Piper has hailed the determination to shown to keep going and confirmed they will have players back in the team at the Nest, which will provide the side with a big help for the future.
“Our second team finally has some bodies back involved and available, which will be a massive boost going forward.
“Huge credit to lads that have stuck at it when the chips were down, but again, another local Derby against league leaders Hornets thirds will prove another test for them.
“It's only a two-game month October with another rest weekend at the end of the month due to World Cup final, so its a huge target for us to get some points out of these games and climb.”
