THOSE wanting to travel using Great Western Railway trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston are warned to expect disruption later this week.
There will be no trains running between the two from Sunday, September 17 to Friday, September 22.
This is due to track replacement and level crossing work, which will see the track replaced between Bedminster and Worle, plus level crossing upgrades between Yatton and Worle as well as structural repairs at Parson Street.
Customers can still travel by train between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton via Westbury, including diverted CrossCountry services.
Trains will still run between Weston and Taunton as well as between London and the south west via Castle Cary.
No trains will stop Bedminster, Parson Street, Nailsea and Backwell, Yatton, Worle or Weston Milton stations. Replacement coaches will operate from all stations affected.
CrossCountry trains will use a different route between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton, which could extend journey times by around 45 minutes.
It is hoped that the replacement works will help reduce congestion.
The GWR website reads: "The railway in and around Bristol is being transformed over the next few years to pave the way for more rail services so we can move more people, more reliably.
"Improvements to the tracks and signalling in the area will ease congestion and enable us to run more trains in the future."
Alex Hills, GWR’s station manager for the Bristol area, said: “This forms part of an ongoing programme that will enable us to continue to deliver safe and reliable services for travelling between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare.
“We will provide alternative road transport as well as ticket acceptance with First Bus on relevant local bus services in Bristol and North Somerset.
“In addition, we have also agreed ticket acceptance on CrossCountry trains to ensure our customers can still complete their journeys during this time.”
Clarisse Grother, Network Rail’s senior programme manager for the project, added: “I’d like to thank passengers and lineside neighbours for their patience and understanding while we carry out essential track maintenance and replacement on the railway line between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare.
“This track replacement work will enable continued safe and reliable journeys on the popular route for years to come.”
