WESTON'S Wilko store is set to close next week.
The shop, which sells a wide variety of household goods, will close its doors on Tuesday, September 12.
The Weston branch is just one of the 52 stores expected to close after Wilko fell into administration last month.
Speaking shortly after the store went into administration, Mark Jackson, chief executive officer for the company, said: “Over the past six months Wilko has been very open that we’ve been considering options to accelerate a turnaround plan given that we needed to make significant changes to the way we operate to restore confidence and stabilise our business.
“We left no stone unturned when it came to preserving this incredible business but must concede that with regret, we’ve no choice but to take the difficult decision to enter into administration.
“We’ve all fought hard to keep this incredible business intact but must concede that time has run out and now we must do what’s best to preserve as many jobs as possible, for as long as is possible, by working with our appointed administrators.”
B&M bought up to 51 other Wilko stores in a deal worth up to £13 million, which are expected to become B&M shops.
However, some stores will still close, meaning that many will lose their jobs.
PwC, who were appointed to oversee the insolvency last month, said it remains in talks with parties interested in buying the remaining parts of the business.
HMV owner Doug Putman is still in discussions with PwC over a possible deal to save a significant number of stores.
The closures will lead to 1,016 redundancies and hundreds of job losses affecting warehouse and service centre staff.
Edward Williams, joint administrator, said: “In the absence of viable offers for the whole business, very sadly store closures and redundancies of team members from those stores are now necessary.
“The loss of these stores will be felt not only by the team members who served them with such dedication, including through the uncertainty of recent weeks, but also the communities which they have been a part of.”
A selection of stores across the UK will also close on Thursday, September 14.
