FOR Heritage Open Days, a Weston-super-Mare theatre will be opening its doors to the public for a day of access to all areas.

On Saturday, September 9, Blakehay Theatre will be allowing visitors a rare opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes.

Heritage Open Days is England’s largest community led festival of history and culture, taking place every September and involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations.

Blakehay Theatre is home to an array of shows and events and a collection of weekly studio classes ranging from dance to youth theatre.

Under the theme Creativity Unwrapped, the theatre will be running a range of special studio classes/workshops that visitors can observe or try for free; these include Musical Theatre Jazz, Contemporary and Belly Dance.

Attendees of the event will also be able to explore Blakehay Theatre’s three varied and versatile spaces of the Main House, Studio Theatre and Theatre Bar through a guided backstage tour.

Blakehay Theatre is unique having been converted into a theatre from an old Baptist church in 1986 and local historian John Crockford-Hawley will be delivering talks on the history of the building in the Theatre Bar throughout the day.

Visitors will also be able to meet and talk to companies coming to Blakehay Theatre in 2023 or 2024 in the foyer and Theatre Bar about their upcoming shows and events.

They will also have the chance to find out about volunteer opportunities at the theatre by talking to the theatre’s volunteer supervisor.

Amid all of the day’s activities, the Box Office will be open for further information or to purchase tickets and the Theatre Bar will also be open for the duration for refreshments.

Blakehay’s Heritage Open Days event will take place between 10am – 4pm.

For a timetable of the free events on the day, you can visit their website www.blakehaytheatre.co.uk or their Facebook page @BlakehayTheatre Heritage.
