FROM humble beginnings and after just ten years in business, a pioneering South West telecoms distributor, First Class Comms, has proved its worth by becoming the first telecoms industry of its kind in the UK to achieve B Corp status, Mary Stoppard writes.

FCC provides a wide variety of telecom services and contracts to some 300 primarily South West based clients. Fewer than 1,500 businesses in the UK have achieved this gold standard certification for making a positive impact.

It took hard work and dedication on the part of all staff to reach the rigorous standards required.

FCC founder and managing director Mark Burland said: “Becoming B Corp certified is a great achievement for [a small] company…. particularly in terms of … management of staff and … customer services.

"We believe our customer service and corporate values are inextricably linked.

"[We hope] this badge of honour will be recognised by …both [our]current and [new customers] … as we look to grow the company further.”

He goes onto say how the company prides itself on their “personal approach and determination to understand business challenges,” which have helped them to find “best solutions” for their customers, which include Bristol Airport, Boston Tea Party café chain and FSC food services Group.
