WHEN we were invited for an overnight stay at Cadbury House, we truly did not know what to expect. We hoped for what most people hope for when they stay in a hotel – clean rooms, smiling staff, comfortable beds.

Let’s just say that Cadbury House did not let us down.

The room

When we pulled up at the hotel, the first thing we noticed was the views. The hotel overlooks the rolling Mendip Hills and the Bristol Channel, and, with plenty of outdoor seating with views of the grounds and a lake, Cadbury House seems like the perfect place to sit with a drink in peace and quiet.

We were just as impressed with the service at check-in. The receptionist explained everything we needed to know, as well as ensured that we knew about the facilities on offer. We even got a warm cookie on arrival to keep us going until dinner, which I thought was a very nice touch.

The hotel kindly put us up in room 401, a Junior King Suite. The spacious room comes complete with anything and everything you would need, including robes, a coffee machine, a drinks fridge, and plenty of wardrobe space. The room also had a perfect view of the grounds and beyond.

There was also a chair in the corner of the room, as well as a seating area at the bottom of the bed, and a desk. Since the hotel isn’t too far away from Bristol Airport, this could definitely come in handy for people travelling for work.

The bathroom was equally as impressive. The rainfall shower, bath, and large sink was separate to the toilet, which was situated in another section of the room, meaning that you had a bit of privacy.

However, one thing to note is that the shower can be seen from the bed, since the wall separating the two is partly made of glass. It seems that this room is designed for couples, rather than families.

Shower gels, shampoos, conditioners and more were provided. Additionally, there was a note which said to ring down to reception if you had forgotten anything, such as a toothbrush or razor, and they would provide you with one. This could definitely come in handy.

The Club

When we checked out The Club at Cadbury House, we were surprised to see how busy it was, especially on a Saturday morning. It seems that, far from lying-in, visitors wanted to get their pump on in the gym or take a swim in the pool.

We first looked in at the gym, which seemed to have all the latest equipment – it looked so good, in fact, that we both said it was a shame that we hadn’t brought our workout clothes with us. There were separate rooms for classes, including one full of spin bikes. Complete with multicoloured lighting and booming music, I can imagine that these classes would be full of energy.

The spa was next on our list. To access it, you had to walk through the modern changing rooms, which had displays of some of the spa products you could purchase. The spa itself was busy, with people doing laps in the swimming pool, chilling out in the hot tub and lounging in the steam room.

Although we didn’t get a chance to try it, Bardolino’s Bristol also looked great from the outside and seemed to have a variety of tasty Italian dishes, including a Crispy Fritto Misto and Porcini Arancini.

All in all, we will be back to stay, there’s no doubt about that.
