POLICE proved too smart for a large group of youths who planned a gathering in Weston-super-Mare yesterday (Sunday, May 7).
After officers posted on social media that they would be patrolling the planned venue to avoid any anti-social behaviour (ASB), the youngsters changed the location.
But members of the Weston Neighbourhood Policing Team still managed to track the young people down and used their anti-social behaviour powers to disperse them.
The planned evening meet up had been set for St John's Football Ground, in Coleridge Road, Weston-super-Mare.
A police Facebook post warned officers would be patrolling the location and "dealing with any ASB robustly".
But officers later posted on Facebook: "Following on from our previous post about a gathering of youths at St Johns Football Ground, the Bournville Neighbourhood Team have been out and about conducting patrols of there and other areas a gathering might take place.
"Whilst out on patrol we came across this gathering of youths in Uphill around the quarry and hillside areas and following the issues this group caused at Hutton Moor last night (Saturday) they were dispersed using our anti-social behaviour powers.
"It would seem that the youths themselves are followers of ours as they told us they had seen our earlier post and tried to go somewhere to avoid us but did not have much luck.
