WESTON Museum has sold out its shows of Drag Queen Story Hour, which will mark the launch of UK Pride.

Aida H Dee, The Storytime Drag Queen, will be attending the museum for the first time on June 3, 2023.

As stated on the Drag Queen Story Hour website, the show aims to be fun, interactive and educational. It is hoped that these performances will provide children with imaginative role models to look up to, and spread the message that being different is not such a bad thing.

The drag queens which take part have performed all across the UK, including in schools, festivals, museums, private events and more.

Drag Queen Story Hour promotes diversity, acceptance and inclusivity. A lead figurehead in this area, Aida H Dee is the first drag artist in Europe to spread this message by reading stories to children in a nursery, as well as through publishing three children's books. Her most recent book is titled My First Pride.

Aida H Dee has also received a number accolades, including being named Local Leader of the Year by PinkNews in 2022, and being nominated as a Top 3 LGBTQ Champion of the Year 2023 and Top 10 Outstanding Contributor to LGBT+ Life 2023 by the LGBT Brit Awards.

Aida H Dee told Drag Queen Story Hour: "I am so excited to come to Weston Super Mare! My focus will be on Pride, and the celebration of Pride. I have received many death threats this year already about what I do: I am an author and my books are about inclusivity and acceptance.

"People seem to think that Weston Super Mare is really right-wing, but it isn't. It really isn't! Weston is as gay as any other town in the UK!"

Weston Museum is also expected to host a queer art inspired exhibition in honour of Pride in Weston. Open to the public between June 18 and July 3, local artists will showcase their work to the public, who can enjoy the exhibition for free.

Residents will have the chance to meet the artists and the Pride in Weston team on June 28 for a special evening dedicated to queer creativity. The event will be running from 7pm.
