A LOCAL woman has had her health impacted by a persistent mould problem in an Alliance Home property.

Kate, who would prefer not to have her last name published, currently lives in Worle.

Since 2018 she has lived in two Alliance Home properties, both of which have put a strain on her health.

Her brother, Tyler, has told the Mercury: "The first property she moved out of on October 11, 2022. Alliance left her for a year and three months with a hole in her kitchen ceiling, which caused dust build up on her chest and led her to be seriously ill and hospitalised due to her asthma.

"When she went to view the new property on September 29 2022, she was told it was ready to move into.

"Within two weeks of moving in, she started to notice black mould growing in the bathroom, living room, kitchen, bedroom and by the front door.

Weston Mercury:

"She was then hospitalised on December 8 due to the fact the mould got onto her chest."

At this point, a family member rang up the Alliance Homes' Head Office, as the problem was having a profound impact on Kate's health. Kate is disabled and has carers visit everyday.

Tyler continues: "They sent someone to do a fungi wash over the areas with mould. The day Alliance came out, my sister had an asthma attack and the guy who came from Alliance Homes had to ring up the office to say they need a surveyor to come out asap.

"They said the fungi wash would keep it at bay but it came back worse.

"She’s currently having to live in the bedroom because of how bad the mould is everywhere."

A spokesperson from Alliance Homes has said: "In line with our new approach to support customers experiencing damp and mould, we have already taken action by carrying out a fungicidal treatment to combat the issue and we’re installing ventilation fans as well as providing information on managing condensation.

"However, we are currently reviewing the structure of the property to see if there is anything further that can be done.

"We understand that living in a property with damp and mould can be very unpleasant and we’re sorry that Kate has experienced these issues."
