VOLUNTEER crews from Weston RNLI were deployed to assist with a police incident in town yesterday morning (October 30).
Lifeboatmen were called shortly after 8am to help with an ongoing incident where a person was attempting to enter the water on the beach near to The Grand Pier.
In their 50th call-out of the year, the team's two lifeboats 'stood by' for 20 minutes whilst the emergency services attempted to resolve the situation.
Police then requested the launch of lifeboats as the incident had not been resolved and concern for the safety of the casualty had 'escalated'.
The person was then taken into custody for their own safety.
A spokesperson said: "Our lifeboats initially stood by on immediate readiness in Knightstone Harbour, ready to launch should assistance be needed.
"With the situation resolved, both boats proceeded to carry out their pre-planned Sunday morning exercise in the bay.
"If you see anyone in danger at the coast, don't delay, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
