CHILDREN from schools in Weston have helped to set up a new nursery in Africa thanks to a book donation scheme.
Young reporters from Jill Dando News - named after the famous TV personality for children part of the Priory Learning Trust - sent dozens of books to children in Malawi as a nursery was established there.
Africa Sunrise Nursery opened in the St Paul's community, Mzimba, under the book scheme started by the Malawi project, funded by Dr Ron McKechnie from the charity One Parish Link.
Later this month, Jill Dando News teacher Sarah O'Gorman will travel to visit the nursery and launch it with her own charity Lifo Mission Group.
Miss O’ Gorman, an English teacher, founded Jill Dando News at Priory Community School Academy five years ago. Shortly after she started a Jill Dando News in Malawi.
Sarah said: “This is a wonderful link between our schools, trust and the new community pre-school in Malawi.
“I’m so excited to go there in October and to help officially launch the project.
“We are also eager to get Jill Dando News really motoring now we are out of the pandemic.”
Limbikira Foundation will run the nursery and has employed two local teachers.
The preschool can host up to 60 students and will help them prepare for primary school.
