HOSPITAL appointments due to take place on the day of the Queen's funeral has been cancelled after it was confirmed Monday will be a bank holiday.
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust, which runs hospitals in Bristol and Weston General Hospital on Grange Road, informed staff that non-urgent procedures will be 'rearranged'.
Many other NHS trusts across the country have also taken the decision to 'stand down elective work' in light of the bank holiday on Monday, September 19.
It is unclear how many appointments have been rescheduled, but urgent procedures will still go ahead and emergency care will remain available to patients as normal.
GP surgeries and some pharmacies will also close.
In all cases, patients who have appointments booked for Monday have been contacted.
In a notification sent to staff, the trust said: "There is no expectation that colleagues who are not contracted to work on bank holidays will do so, as we recognise the importance of this day as an opportunity for reflection for many people."
It comes at a time when a record 6.8 million people in England are currently waiting for treatment.
UHBW was approached for comment.
