ROTARY CLUB OF WRINGTON VALE: Last week members welcomed their new president, Peter Roswell.

The handover ceremony was, however, six weeks late since Peter, who lives in Sandford, had suffered a heart attack and had to undergo heart surgery just two weeks before he was due to take over as president of the club.

The club meets weekly at the Burrington Inn, Burrington, and is involved in charitable projects locally, nationally and internationally.

WESTON SCRABBLE CLUB: The club’s annual meeting will be held on September 4 at 7 pm.

It will be at St Saviour’s Church Hall, Locking Road, Weston and refreshments will be provided.

Anyone is welcome to come and enjoy a fun evening with a game of Scrabble included.

Prizes are being awarded to members for successes throughout the year and they will be presented by Sheila Kennedy, a former member of the club.

NORTH SOMERSET MODELLERS’ SOCIETY: The society continues to attract new members at its meetings at The Woodspring, Worle High Street, from 8.30pm on the second Tuesday of each month.

The society also holds an all day ‘model-in’ at The Helicopter Museum one Sunday each month, which is proving increasingly popular.

All modellers are welcome to either meeting, regardless of age, experience or area of model- making interest.

Club members will be making fruit shapes from wood.

Demonstrations of various wood holding techniques along with texturing and finishing will form the basis of the hands-on meeting.

Members had to decide ‘guilty or not guilty’ in relation to 18/19th century crimes occurring in the town.

WEST WOODSPRING ROTARY CLUB: The Music in the Meadow event, held at Sycamore Farm last Sunday, was attended by nearly 200 people, who greatly enjoyed the music and the pig roast. Fortunately the weather was kind.

Proceeds from this event are to be used to mainly support the national charity Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, as well as local charities.

Full details of the proceeds will be announced later and in the meantime the club thanks all those who attended and Angie and John Horne for the use of their farm.

At our meeting on Tuesday our speaker will be Adele Sutton who will tell us about her experiences as a member of the Rotary Group Study Exchange Team visiting Malawi.

It helps people who have difficulty pulling plugs from sockets to do so more easily.

We have also been working with a local school to provide essential equipment for their new soft play room and are also involved in the organisation of a new Leo’s Club at Priory School, which had its inauguration in July.

Socially we had a handover meal recently and in September we are planning a day out at West Somerset Railway between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead for a cider and cheese lunch.

Following a meal for over 50 members and guests, we were entertained by Chantel who has the voice of an angel. On Saturday there is a French bistro theme evening, on August 24 one of our popular roast lunches and on the 25th a fun quiz night.
