A YOUTH project is raising money to give a group of teenagers the opportunity to climb a mountain for the first time.
The Grow Your Own Youth project works with youngsters aged 11-19 living on the Bournville, Coronation and Oldmixon estates.
Its staff have spent the past three months finding out what activities the youngsters would like to do.
One group decided to take on the challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon in Wales.
Project manager Elaine Harris said: “They have never been able to go up a mountain before, and we wanted to continue to grow their confidence and inspire young people to continue reaching higher in what they can achieve.”
Persimmon Homes has already donated £1,000, but more funds are needed.
Elaine said: “It is fantastic to have Persimmon Homes help fund the residential trip, and the money will cover the cost of mini bus hire, mountain leader guide, accommodation, food, and activities.
“We now need to raise further funding for walking boots, and mountain-walking clothing including rucksacks.
“We are keen to hear from any outdoor companies who may be interested in sponsoring the project to help us buy the much needed equipment and clothing.”
