PEOPLE in Kewstoke will see traffic disruption as road closures are put in place for eight months to upgrade gas pipes.

Wales and West Utilities will start essential works to the gas supply in the Kewstoke area from October 17.

The upgrades will help the gas company to transport hydrogen and biomethane in the future so as to reduce high carbon emissions.

It will cost £550,000 to complete and these works are planned to end by Christmas. Additional traffic management will be in place between January and June.

The closures to begin this side of Christmas include:

  • Beach Road to Sand Road - October 17 to December 2.
  • Lower Norton Lane and Crookes Lane junction - October 24 to 28.
  • Crookes Lane to Beach Road junction - October 31 to December 9.
  • Beachlands Park Homes to Beach Road junction - December 12 to 23.

Simon Lee, of Wales and West Utilities who is managing the gas pipe upgrade, said: "While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Kewstoke.

"We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

"We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum."

Wales and West Utilities supplies energy to 7.5million people across the south west of England and Wales.
